Salt Dough Tutorial

For me this didn't cost a penny, but it was a little tricky.  My plan was to make a thumbprint pendant, and here's what I cam up with:

You need a medium sized mixing bowl, measuring cup, 2 cups of flower, 1 cup of salt, and about 3/4 cup of water.

Pour the flower and salt into the bowl,

Then add water.  Mix and kneed until the consistency is like play dough.

It should look something like this.  You can also add food coloring if you want it a certain color.

As you can see, I've tried numerous times trying to get a thumbprint.  It was really hard seeing the lines, so I lost hope.  :(

Let's hope this one will work!  I added a ring on the top to make it a necklace.

So, since I had so much left over, I made a bunch of random stuff.  Bake in the oven at 250 degrees for about 2 hours (maybe more).

Once baked, I decided to use gold spray paint on them.  It brings out the lines in the thumbprints a lot more, heres some close ups:

Jamie's thumbprint on the left, mine on the right.  :D

The pendant turned out alright, but the ring on the top was too small for the necklace :(
Oh well!

Other imprints

So if you're making a thumbprint out of this, don't get your hopes up about the details, because spray paint will really help (especially metallic spray paint.)

Frosted Glass Tutorial!

This was probably the easiest craft I've done yet, and verrrry cheap :D

Here's what you need:

All you need is a glass vase/fixture, frosted spray paint (AC Moore/Michaels), and a bunch of rubber bands.  Simple enough right?

Place the rubber bands onto your vase, making sure they are flat all around.  Arrange them however and how much you desire!

Flip your fixture over and get ready for some frost.  Make sure it's completely covered!  For mine, I gave it another coat a couple minutes later just to be sure. (You can see some drip-age on the left, may have done a little too much but oh well).  Let it dry for a couple hours.

Then BAM! You can put whatever you want in it, I think a candle looks pretty.

Even Misty approves!

There you have it. Happy frosting! :)

Lyric Wall Art Tutorial

The lyric canvas is pretty cheap to make, and a easy fix for empty walls!  Here's what I used:

You'll need a canvas (I chose 11x14), painting or poster of your choice, paint brush, acrylic white paint, letter stickers, and liquitex medium gel.  *Note* - Don't pick your favorite artwork, because the majority of it will be covered in paint!

I got these stickers at AC Moore, but I think they weren't strong enough, and you'll see why in a minute.  These were the best ones I could find, maybe there's some special ones you can order online.

Also got this at AC Moore, it worked pretty well, just needs a ton of coating.

Outline the size of your canvas on your artwork.  Yes, I chose Monet.

I chose to put the liquitex onto the poster before putting the letters on, to prevent the paper ripping when peeling the stickers off.  This was more of an experiment, so if you have an actual painting you probably won't have to do this.

Once dry and ready, place the stickers onto the artwork.  Make sure they're sticking good and there are no bubblez.

Paint over the whole artwork with paint.  Notice I have some bubblez. :(
Let it dry!

Once dry, peel those bad boys off!  Since I had crappy stickers, they didn't come off all the way and left paper residue.  If this happens to you, dab some water on the letters and rub the paper off.
Be careful!

There you go! once complete, give it some style with your choice of frame, and maybe some flowers too.  I gave it a rustic feel, since my letters were so rugged.  If you attempt this and find better letter stickers, let me know! :D

Mark My Words

Today is the first time I've ran since my 5k.  I also realized it's been exactly 4 months since then.  The whole time I was running today I couldn't stop thinking about the 5k and how good I felt, and how nothing phased me that day. (Even how early I had to get up).  All that being said, I'm determined to do another 5k in the summer! It was a promise I made to myself in the fall and I'm sticking to it.  I'm trying to break the habit of being a "summer" runner, so starting to train in January is a good start.

Tailor Made

Some more weddings ideas/visions I like. Can you tell it's a Pinterest day?:

Twine might part of the theme, not sure yet.

I love everything about this

Looking for a church possibly like this

This will be little Tom Tom!!!! It's crazy to think he'll be around this age.

It explains itself :)

Polaroid memories and maybe a polaroid photo booth? It'd be pretty cheap and easy!
